After more than twenty years of abandonment, the area of the former Sant’Anna Quarry is moving towards a new phase of transformation, thanks to a territorial regeneration project developed by our studio over recent months.
Koro is conceived as a landscape and cultural reactivation device: an intervention capable of converting a disused site into a multifunctional system open to students, researchers, schools, and the community, where landscape, knowledge, and innovation intertwine.
The project involves the morphological restoration of the cavities generated by past quarrying activities, achieved through the reconstruction of the hillside continuity and the planting of native species. A new slow-mobility infrastructure of landscape paths defines the “Olive Tree Hill,” while an educational greenhouse introduces spaces dedicated to experimentation and public outreach. The existing buildings, preserved and regenerated, will host laboratories dedicated to agrobiodiversity and exhibition itineraries showcasing the historical stratification of the Metauro Valley—a territory of archaeological and landscape significance since the battle of 207 BC between the Romans and the Carthaginians.
The project, currently in the concept phase, will be presented to the community on April 18th, 2026, during a public event dedicated to sharing the design process and its impact on the local territory. The meeting will open with a panel discussion introduced by RAI journalist Lorenzo Luzi, offering an opportunity to illustrate the vision and strategies of a transformation oriented towards the environmental and cultural regeneration of the site.
